It seems safe to say that, over the past few days, Xbox Live has been struggling. Xbox Live was first down for 12 hours and then another major outage hit a couple of days later, also lasting quite a few hours. In the meantime, some players have reported still being unable to access digital games they own or titles via Xbox Game Pass. This lasted between the outages, and by all reports, is still a lingering issue for some players.
Downdetector, a website that tracks outage reports based on if they are higher than the average (as it is common for some people to have a problem at one time or another), shows a sharp increase in Xbox Live outage reports around 1-2 pm on May 8 that has decreased but still lasted so far today. It’s still early in many parts of the world, which is noteworthy given that reports this morning are increasing—if less sharply than in past days.

Xbox Support has commented on the ongoing Xbox Live problems, reporting “significant improvement to the issue” that has stopped users from buying and playing games. In terms of those still having lingering issues with Xbox Live, the official Support Twitter account suggests the problem should be fully mitigated within the coming days thanks to a new update. It’s likely that, until this new update does roll out, some players will still struggle with their games.
Reportedly, there is a workaround though it’s by no means guaranteed or simple. First, those who are game-sharing with their Xbox consoles are likely to be the most impacted.
