Last year’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is coming to Xbox Game Pass this month, as confirmed by Xbox. The 80s rock-infused sci-fi superhero adventure was developed by Deus Ex studio Eidos Montreal and tells the story of Peter “Star-Lord” Quill and his rag-tag band of space mercenaries as they work to overcome their personal demons and save the Marvel Universe from the threat of an intergalactic cult. Despite initial skepticism brought on by Square Enix’s previous super title, the divisive Marvel’s Avengers, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy saw positive reviews from comic book and movie fans due to its humor, plot, and soundtrack.
Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy is part of a recent wave of triple-A superhero games, such as Insomniac's critically-acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man series and the upcoming Firaxas-developed Marvel's Midnight Suns. GOTG drew inspiration from both the original comic books and massively popular MCU films to create its own version of the Guardians, as well as classic characters like Adam Warlock and the NOVA Corp. Gameplay-wise, Guardians Of The Galaxy featured branching dialogue options that let players shape Peter's relationships with his teammates and allowed players to give them commands in battle. Finally, Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy was praised for its impressive art style and soundtrack, which featured a mix of classic arena rock anthems and brand-new songs by a fictional band named Star-Lord — which Peter takes his iconic nickname from in the game's continuity.
