Nintendo might've released its final major update for Super Mario Maker 2 two years ago, but the game-making title is still inspring Mario creators out there, not least one very, very dedicated fan.
As spotted by Nintendo Life, Mario fan 'Metroid Mike 64' has been working on building a whole "Super World" in Mario Maker 2. Unofficially called Super Mario Bros. 5, the creator has bee working on his project since 2015 "trying to create a classic Mario game that plays as if Nintendo created it themselves".

It was a real labour of love for Metroid Mike 64, on a project that started with the release of the original Super Mario Maker. His Super Mario Bros. 5 features "40 full courses spread across 8 worlds", and only uses templates and courses as can be found in the NES and SNES Mario games. There are 24 courses from Super Mario World, 14 from Super Mario Bros. 3, and two courses from Super Mario Bros.
"The gameplay is all classic Mario. I'm not trying to troll you or purposely try to kill you, I'm trying to provide you with something Nintendo should've done already, make a full Mario game within Super Mario Maker 2, that's fun as heck!" Metroid Mike 64 wrote, on Twitter.
"So I urge you to dust off your copy of Super Mario Maker 2 and try out my Super World. I've poured lots of blood, sweat and tears into this over the past 7 years. I hope you enjoy this game as much as I have," he continued.
Those wanting to give it a try, the Maker ID code you need is: 0G9-XN4-FNF. Happy platforming.
