Just days after Mason Greenwood was excised from FIFA 22, the same thing has happened to FIFA Ultimate Team Icon Marc Overmars.
It was only last week that English footballer Mason Greenwood had to be removed from FIFA 22, after he was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, and now former Dutch player Marc Overmars has been removed as well.
An Arsenal favourite from the late 90s, Overmars retired in 2004 but is one of many older footballers included in FIFA 22 as a FIFA Ultimate Team Icon.
Or at least he was until allegations emerged of him sending inappropriate messages to female colleagues, which also saw him leave AFC Ajax as Director of Football.
Although EA never usually comments publicly about the removal of players, unless it is as a result of their death, insider source FUTSheriff claims that Overmars has already been removed from pack and drafts.
That means it is now impossible to obtain his base, mid, or prime Icon cards in any FUT pack. If you already own a version of one of the cards you can keep it, but you won’t be able to use it in a team to play in a draft squad.
FUTSheriff categories the move as a suspension, which implies he could be added back to the game at a later date – although at the moment that seems unlikely.
Following the removal of Mason Greenwood from FIFA 22, Konami also removed him from eFootball and Football Manager pledged to do so with the game’s next update. It remains to be seen if the same thing will happen with Overmars.
