Magic: The Gathering's Unfinity Gets A New October Release Date

Unfinity finally has a release date. The return of the Un-sets was originally scheduled to arrive on April 1, that being the perfect date to release a parody Magic: The Gathering expansion, but the COVID-19 pandemic has and continues to make fools of us all. April became September as of Hasbro’s most recent earnings call, and it seems that September has now officially become October as per Wizards of the Coast.

"October 7 is the new April 1, our updated release planned for Unfinity at a local game store near you," writes Wizards in today's announcement. "So, Mark (Rosewater) your calendar for October 7 when the fourth Un-set finally gets its day in the sun."

The fourth Un-set for Magic, Unfinity takes place in an outer space funfair called Myra the Magnificent's Intergalactic Astrotorium of Fun. Expect a retro-futuristic look full of ‘50s and ‘60s sci-fi tropes mixed with plenty of Magic: The Gathering memes.

Unlike previous Un-sets, Unfinity will include cards that will be legal in Legacy, Commander, and Vintage formats. Those will include reprinted Shock lands, full-art lands, and also totally new cards with black borders. However, it wouldn’t be an Un-set without some cards that totally shatter Magic’s traditional rules, and those cards will be denoted by a holographic acorn stamp.

To make Unfinity the funniest set Magic has ever produced, Wizards of the Coast hired a team of comedians to write names and flavor text for Unfinity’s cards.
