In Sony's Spider-Man universe, there are a collection of projects in the works, with one of the upcoming films set to be titled Madame Web, named after the famous comic character.
The new Spider-Man spinoff film is set to be directed by Jessica Jones' S.J. Clarkson, with actresses Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney attached as the main characters. Johnson will portray the Madame Web character, with Sweeney's role still completely unknown as of now.
Will Sony End Up Using A Different Spider-Man For Its Cinematic Universe?
Actress Celeste O'Connor has also been added to the film's cast list, with her role undisclosed as well. With the recent news of O'Connor being attached to the film came the reveal of a new synopsis for Sony'sMadame Web. In the film description that Sony shared with Variety and Deadline, the brief synopsis says, “the film will be an origin story of the clairvoyant Madame Web, whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world.”
In the comics, the Madame Web character appeared for the first time in 1981’s Amazing Spider-Man #210. In that story, Madame Web, also known as Cassandra Webb, was an elderly woman who worked with Spider-Man by using her clairvoyant vision powers. The character was born blind but has telepathic, clairvoyant, and precognitive mutant abilities. However, in the comics, there is also another Madame Web named Julia Carpenter, who becomes injected with a mix of venom and exotic plant extracts, giving Carpenter powers that were almost identical to Spider-Man's.
With this just being a short snippet of the plot of the soon-to-be-released Madame Web film, it's still unknown if Johnson will portray Cassandra Webb or Julia Carpenter, but considering her age it's fair to assume she
