The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is coming to Prime Video in 2022 — but what does Tolkien's writing reveal about these 20 magical accessories? A Middle-earth TV show has been burning away in Amazon's forge for the better part of 4 years, and still, there's plenty of mystery surrounding the project. Now, finally, an official title has been unveiled - The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Set during Tolkien's Second Age, the series will cast its eye beyond the golden MacGuffin Frodo (unwillingly) cast into the fires of Mt. Doom.
A brief history behind the Rings of Power was included in The Fellowship of the Ring — rendered in live-action by Peter Jackson's 2001 movie adaptation. As many Lord of the Rings fans will know, Sauron helped craft 20 Rings of Power, which he gifted to the various races of Middle-earth not from the kindness of his cold, black heart, but to dominate and control them. Sauron gave nine to men, seven to dwarves, the Elves had three, and the Dark Lord kept for himself (say it with us) one ring to rule them all.

As implied by the title, these 20 trinkets will provide the focal subject for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Some are more important than others in the grand tapestry of Middle-earth, but all have history on the fingers of important figures.
