Prior to its April 5 release, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has announced which characters will be added to the game through DLC packs, and it has already made a misstep. LEGO Skywalker Saga revealed The Mandalorian DLC characters, but failed to make Grogu a playable character. He is still included in the expansion pack, but has been relegated to a companion character alongside Din Djarin, aka the Mandalorian.
Grogu was originally, affectionately known as Baby Yoda before audiences knew his real name. Alongside Mando, Grogu has been the focus of the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, with the bounty hunter asked to retrieve «the child» for a client with connections to the collapsed Galactic Empire in the first episode of the series. Grogu especially has already grown into a wildly popular Star Wars character, and it's nice to see him included in LEGO Skywalker Saga, but it would've been a fun surprise to have him as a playable character.

Out of every Star Wars character in Skywalker Saga's DLC, Grogu is the only one who is a companion to another. While disappointing, the decision to make him unplayable is ultimately understandable. In terms of canon abilities, Grogu has practically none that are controllable as of the end of The Mandalorian's second season. The LEGO games are known for their wackiness, however, and it would have been very fun to swing a lightsaber and shoot blasters with an even smaller version of Yoda.
In The Mandalorian, Grogu is about 50 years old, which is still very young for his species. He's one of only three of the unnamed species to appear in all of Star Wars alongside Yoda and Yaddle, another Jedi Master. Not
