Russ Petersen, aka nite_moogle, announced his last day at Blizzard Entertainment following an almost ten year career with the studio. Serving as World of Warcraft's lead rewards designer since the Legion expansion, Russ was one of the designers behind the Toy Box collections system and is also credited as an instigator of the Great Vault project in Shadowlands.
At BlizzCon 2017, he presented Battle for Azeroth's Heart of Azeroth and Azerite Armor systems during the Gameplay and Systems panel, which also introduced us to Island Expeditions, Warfronts, and the addition of Battle.net Groups, Communities, and Battle.net voice integration as game-wide social features. Before joining Blizzard Entertainment, Petersen was a systems designer at Carbine Studios, and achieved recognition through his participation within the Elitist Jerks theorycrafting forums throughout the first few World of Warcraft expansions.
No word on his next endeavor post-Blizzard, but we wish him well and thank him for his work within the Warcraft universe.
