Backward compatibility is once again accepted as standard at Xbox, as every game that has been developed for the Xbox One is still playable on Xbox Series X and S consoles. This wasn’t always the case, however, as when the Xbox One was announced in May 2013 it was claimed that backward compatibility with games from previous Xbox consoles would not be possible with the system.
The backlash to this announcement was immediate as players feared that their favorite games from previous systems wouldn’t be brought into the next console generation. But Xbox responded to the player outcry and slowly backward compatibility was implemented into the Xbox One console.

Xbox introduced these backwards compatible games in waves, and now there is a huge library of original Xbox and Xbox 360 games available to download and play on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Now may be the perfect time for players who may have missed some of these classic titles the first-time round to pick them up as over 50 backwards compatible games are currently included in Xbox’s latest sales on its Xbox Game Store.
The sales are running for one week, ending on August 9, and include many classic games from the Xbox 360 era such as Assassin's Creed 2 and Injustice: Gods Among Us, as well as original Xbox titles like TimeSplitters 2. These deals are split across various different sales, such as Xbox’s frequent Deals with Gold sale for Xbox Live subscribers. However, there is also the Games Under $20 Sale, which is lowering the prices of games that were already listed at less than $20, and this is where true bargains will likely be found.
