A Naughty Dog staffer's LinkedIn page seems to offer confirmation of the studio working on the long-rumored The Last of Us remake. The first rumblings of a Last of Us remake hit the airwaves in April 2021, courtesy of a Bloomberg report that claimed Sony's Visual Arts Service Group had led development on the project before Sony handed it to franchise creator Naughty Dog. Neither the publisher nor the studio has corroborated the story.
The original Last of Us landed in store shelves in June 2013, marking a big departure from Naughty Dog's previous endeavors. A gritty world, well-written characters, and a moving narrative grounded the adventure and made for a masterpiece that served as the perfect swan song for the PlayStation 3. Not too long thereafter, Naughty Dog remastered the third-person action title for PS4, taking care to polish the visuals and performance for an even smoother experience. Both the gameplay and visuals still hold up for the most part, too, which is what makes the need for a Last of Us remake questionable.
