Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has just been released, and there are some notable differences between the movie and the manga. Nothing about the overall story has been changed, but it has been expanded through the use of original scenes and extensions of the source material. All of it comes together to enhance the story in various ways; it even helps to give it more connectivity to the Jujutsu Kaisen anime.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a prequel story to the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, set about one year before the events of the main story. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 revolves around Yuta Okkotsu, a young boy who’s haunted by the violent spirit of his childhood crush Rika Orimoto. Not wanting people to get hurt just from being around him, Yuta joins Jujutsu High to become a sorcerer powerful enough to break Rika’s curse and allow him to have a good life with his friends.

In the process of adapting the story from print to film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 received a variety of changes, all of which add to the overall story. One notable change is that the movie shows Yuta and Rika’s first meeting at a hospital when Yuta was being treated for pneumonia and Rika was recovering from being lost in the wilderness. Yuta and Rika’s meeting wasn’t shown in the original manga, only detailed in an author’s note in the collected trade, so their meeting being shown in the movie adds a lot to their relationship.
