Blizzard Entertainment is treating World of Warcraft fans to another trip down memory lane with the announcement of Wrath of the Lich King’s arrival to World of Warcraft: Classic. The beloved expansion, which originally launched in late 2008, will be coming back in the form of the WoW Classic server option and is likely to bring a great number of fans back to the franchise following the game’s poorly received Shadowlands expansion.
World of Warcraft: Classic servers were introduced in 2019 following years of the WoW community voicing their demand to relive the game’s past. Although Blizzard was hesitant to deliver on it, the classic version would revert the MMO to its original state from launch day, giving veteran players a chance to revisit the days of old and giving new players a look at WoW’s history. A classic version of World of Warcraft’s first expansion, The Burning Crusade, was released in 2021 to expand on the old experience.

During Blizzard’s latest World of Warcraft expansion reveal livestream, the next entry in WoW Classic’s agenda, Wrath of the Lich King, was revealed and given an all-new trailer to set fans up to return to WoW’s most popular expansion ever. The 2008 expansion was announced to be coming sometime this year and will return in its original state – for the most part. Blizzard announced that they would be removing the dungeon finder, a system that some considered to be a major factor in the game’s decline, in order to promote the game’s feeling of unity.
