John Hennigan (AKA John Morrison) made his AEW debut under the name Johnny Elite on the May 18 edition of Dynamite, but as of now, the wrestler isn't under full-time contract with the company. He wrestled Samoa Joe as the "Joker" of the Owen Hart Memorial Tournament, putting up a valiant effort before losing to a muscle buster from the Samoan Submission Machine. After Elite's match was finished, fans were left wondering what his future in AEW could be.
Elite has wrestled under many, many other names. WWE audiences know him as John Morrison, while he was known as Johnny Impact while working for IMPACT wrestling. He also had a noteworthy four-year run with Lucha Underground, where he was known as Johnny Mundo. He's taken on the moniker of Johnny Elite for now, but it's unclear whether or not he'll work more matches in AEW in the future.

As it stands, Elite's match against Joe was a one-off. Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com is reporting that "(Elite) is not signed to the promotion as of this writing, but the door is open for additional appearances down the line." Johnson also explained that the AEW on TNT Twitter account, which incorrectly tweeted that Johnny Gargano was the joker, isn't run by AEW, so they had nothing to do with that mistake.
There are cases to be made both for and against signing Elite to a longer contract in AEW. He's a former IMPACT world champion and has plenty of notoriety given his time working the independent scene. Elite also gained plenty of exposure during his time in WWE and is established both as a singles competitor and tag-team performer.
