Jensen Ackles congratulated his longtime pal Jared Padalecki in an Instagram post celebrating The CW ordering a Walker prequel pilot. Both actors rose to prominence playing Sam and Dean Winchester on the long-running CW series Supernatural, which just ended in 2020 after 15 seasons. Following the series' cancellation, the two have stayed in the orbit of the CW. Padalecki made the quickest turnaround, starring in the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot Walker, which premiered just two months after the Supernatural finale.
Yesterday, news came out that spells major windfalls for both actors. First, Ackles will be producing a Supernatural prequel pilot titled The Winchesters with his wife Danneel. The series will follow Sam and Dean's parents John and Mary Winchester, with narration by Ackles as Dean. In the same announcement, Walker was also greenlit for its own prequel pilot titled Walker: Independence. Padalecki is producing Walker Independence, which will follow the origins of the Walker family in the 1800s.

On his Instagram, Jensen Ackles posted a headline from Deadline announcing both series. After congratulating his team, including his wife and writer Robbie Thompson, he added, "AAAAAND….a huge congrats to, my brother, [Jared Padalecki] and the whole #walkerfamily on their great news. So damn excited for you guys!!!" In a comment making fun of how their respective styles have changed since Supernatural, Padalecki thanked his onscreen brother, saying "Maybe someone just uses photoshop to swap out our hair?… it’ll seem more recent… Congratulations!"
