James Gunn clarifies how long The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be. Gunn's most recent projects, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, have seen him delve into the DCEU, but now he's set to return to the MCU in a big way. Currently, the fan favorite filmmaker is working on the 2023 movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which he says will be the final installment in his colorful Marvel franchise. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the entire original Guardians cast will return for what is being touted as a very emotional adventure.
Before that arrives, though, audiences will get to revisit the Guardians in a rather unique setting. Announced back in 2020, the ragtag team will star in the MCU's very first holiday special, officially titled The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Much like for Vol. 3, plot details are still a big mystery, but Gunn has confirmed the special will lead into next year's movie. It's expected to debut on Disney+ later this year, with production taking place in the middle of that for Vol. 3.

Because of its relation to Vol. 3, there's been some confusion among fans as to how long The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will actually be. Gunn clarified on social media recently, writing that it will be "TV Special length." This means fans can likely expect it to be around an hour, or perhaps even an hour and a half. And no, they will not be able to see it in theaters.
