Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast as the lead in Cut And Run, a thriller following yacht thieves with speedboats. Gyllenhaal, 41, has a wide repertoire in Hollywood, with a mix of award-winning dramas and blockbusters to his name. Oscar-nominated for his role in Ang Lee’s 2005 romantic drama Brokeback Mountain, the younger Gyllenhaal sibling has also appeared in big-budget action flicks like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, Source Code and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Now, the star has been cast as the lead in upcoming heist thriller Cut And Run. Variety reports that Gyllenhaal will lead the cast of the new movie. Written by John Glenn, who penned previous action thrillers such as 2008’s Eagle Eye, the high-concept film will follow a gang of thieves who target super-yachts, using high-powered speedboats to commit their crimes. Their long-running plan goes wrong, however, when the gang steal from the wrong people. Gyllenhaal will also serve as a producer on the film via his company Nine Stories Productions.

Cut And Run’s script rights were won by New Republic Pictures, with production soon to begin following the casting of Gyllenhaal. Further plot details and casting announcements are yet unknown. 2022 is set to be another action-packed year for the leading man, who is also expected to start filming Sony’s The Division later in the year. Gyllenhaal will also return to the superhero genre, having been cast as the lead in Studio 8’s upcoming Prophet adaptation. Cut And Run will be another high-octane thriller for the superstar, with more information on the heist movie expected to come soon.
