In just a few months from now, iPhone fans will be treated to a “brand new” iPhone SE+ 5G! Yes, iPhone SE+ 5G, not iPhone SE 3. Based on a latest leaked information, Apple could end up calling the third-generation iPhone SE the iPhone SE+ 5G. For the first time though, Apple will not use the “Plus” moniker for a larger sized device of the same series. Instead, it could be used to refer to the new chipset.
Based on the latest revelations from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, it is said that the iPhone SE+ 5G will stick to its 4.7-inch LCD display. That simply means the same design and features carried over from the current iPhone SE that has been around since 2020. Young does not reveal any other features and aspects of the iPhone SE+ 5G yet.
Young, however, gives some big information regarding the iPhone SE’s next big upgrade that is scheduled for 2024. Apple is working on a total redesign of the iPhone SE for the 2023/2024 upgrade with a completely new screen size. This upgrade will bring a 5.7-inch display, which is currently not in use on any iPhone model in Apple’s lineup. Previous rumours had hinted at the possibility of a 6.1-inch iPhone SE as well.
This fourth generation iPhone SE, as Young says, could end up being largely based on the iPhone 13 Mini. The iPhone SE lineup is usually Apple’s recycling program for its bygone iPhone models and with the Mini models likely to get axed this year, Apple could reuse it for the iPhone SE series.
What remains to be seen is whether Apple brings the OLED display tech to the iPhone SE in 2023. Apple has reserved the OLED display for its more expensive and mainstream iPhone models. With the iPhone SE 4, Apple could use a completely new OLED display.
