The new iPhone SE 2022 is easily the most interesting Apple products over the last few years. With rumours suggesting wild “iPhone XR-like” upgrades to the SE in 2022 and other suggesting unbelievably low price, the new iPhone SE proved them all wrong. Starting at Rs. 43,900, it pushes the lowest price you have to pay for a brand new iPhone in 2022. And on paper, the changes are minimal, despite Apple showing love major changes over the outgoing iPhone SE from 2020.
So, how does it all seem in the real world, especially in India? We just got our hands on a brand “new” iPhone SE in the “new” Midnight colour variant that will be sold on India starting March 18. Other than the Midnight (very dark blue from the iPhone 13), you can also get it in Starlight (sort of bright white), and the Product Red (or just Red). The base variant still offers 64GB storage, while the other two variants have 128GB as well as 256GB storage options. The core features remain unchanged.
The iPhone SE 2022 gets the same treatment as the iPhone 13 series when it comes to its packaging. Yes, the box is slim owing to the missing charging adapter; something that the 2020 model came with at launch. You get the standard USB-C to Lightning cable, and a bunch of Apple documents, a single Apple sticker, and the SIM ejector pin. The phone itself comes wrapped in a plastic wrapping that has all the buttons and crucial bits marked out. The box itself isn’t wrapped in a plastic anymore.
Since the 2022 model is physically the same with similar dimensions as the 2020 model, you can buy any of the covers that are compatible with the older one. Apple has, however, dropped the Silicon cases in Midnight, Abyss Blue, Product Red, and Chalk Pink.
