At the WWDC 2022 keynote, Apple revealed that iOS 16 will be available from today as a developer beta, while the public beta will go live next month. What does this mean for you, who just wants to try out the new version of iOS without any hassles. Simply put, the ideal way to get your first taste of iOS 16 is by trying out a beta version of iOS 16. That, however, is not easy.

Every year, Apple, just like Google, holds an exhaustive beta programme for all its OS versions. The first one is the developer beta, which only allows app developers across the world to try out the new software. This is meant only for developers to prepare their apps for the new OS, and make it compatible with the new version. The second one is the public beta, which opens up iOS 16 to everyone signing up for the Apple beta programme.

The developer beta version of iOS 16 will be the earliest way to try iOS 16 but there are caveats. The developer beta will come lots of bugs and may even miss out ons some of the hero features of iOS 16. Note that this version is meant only for app developers to test out their apps. This is not ideally meant for regular users, like you and me.

The public beta version is where things are sorted out. Anyone can sign up for public beta for free, and Apple will release several public beta versions. These versions are buggy and may often break some key phone functions. Most importantly, it ruins the battery life until the stable build is released.
