Instagram has started testing a new feature that allows users to pin certain pics on their profiles.
TechCrunch reports that the "new feature is currently in the testing phase and is showing up for select users on the platform." The official PCMag account—which, it should go without saying, you should follow—has received access to the feature. Here's what it looks like in action:
If your account has the feature, you should see a Pin to your profile option when you tap the three dots on the top right of a photo. It'll then appear on your grid with a pin icon. Tap the three dots again and select Unpin from your profile to remove it.
Pinning isn't entirely new to Instagram; users could already pin Stories to the top of their profiles. But this expanded capability should make it easier for people to highlight their best images (or at least the ones they like showing off the most) above their more recent counterparts.
This experiment also suggests that Meta's plans for Instagram haven't stopped at the re-introduction of chronological feeds. That change gave Instagram users more control over their viewing experience; this one gives them more control over how they present themselves.
TechCrunch notes that mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi reported on Instagram developing a pin-to-profile feature in January, and spotted the feature's continued development in February. Now the question is whether or not Instagram will make the feature available to all users.
