As per a previous report, Google was expected to launch its next-gen affordable smartphone the Pixel 6a in May 2022, but a new report now says that the phone will be delayed. The Pixel 3a was the first affordable Pixel smartphone, and following its success, it has become a tradition for Google to release toned-down and cheaper versions of its flagship phones.
When Google announced the Pixel 3a, it launched alongside a second model called the Pixel 3a XL that had a bigger screen and higher battery capacity. However, Google went in a different direction when it announced the Pixel 4a – rather than an XL model, it announced the Pixel 4a 5G which not only had a bigger display and battery but a more powerful processor with 5G support. In 2021, it made another change by launching only one model — the Pixel 5a 5G.

The Pixel 6a's previously-reported May 2022 timeline would have marked a return to the original period Google announced the Pixel 3a. Unfortunately, that may not be the case as YouTuber Jon Prosser, via his Front Page Tech channel revealed that the launch date for the upcoming smartphone has been postponed. According to him, the phone is now scheduled for a late July 2022 release, which translates to a 2-month delay. Nevertheless, it is still arriving earlier than the Pixel 5a which was announced in August 2021.
