Hyper Light Breaker’s Early Access release on Steam has been delayed to 2024.
The news marks a second delay for the game, which was originally targeting a spring 2023 release window, and was most recently due to arrive this fall/autumn.
“The development of Hyper Light Breaker has been an extraordinary journey, as we’ve set out to make this new Hyper Light adventure the best possible version of a truly wild idea,” said Heart Machine founder and creative director Alx Preston. “We’ve made remarkable progress and the game has come a long way since we started development.
“Taking this additional time to focus on Hyper Light Breaker’s development will allow us to bring the game to its full potential and we are incredibly grateful for the support from our community that’s been with us every step of the way.
“We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to deliver a new adventure that lives up to what fans expect from a Heart Machine title.”
Announced last March, the follow-up to 2016 action RPG Hyper Light Drifter shifts from the original game’s 2D perspective to a new 3D one.

“Hyper Light Breaker is neither a sequel nor a prequel to Hyper Light Drifter,” according to Heart Machine. “It is set in the universe of Hyper Light and is its own story. It will share threads, aesthetics, lore and other recognizable elements, but will be a new game driven by new designs.”
Its Steam description reads. “Play alone or with friends to explore massive biomes, defeat brutal monsters, create new builds, survive the mysterious Crowns and overthrow the almighty Abyss King in this action rogue-lite adventure”.
