Jessica Henwick and Hugo Weaving have been cast in the new Australian-set backpacking thriller The Royal Hotel. Henwick is known for major TV roles including as Nymeria Sand in Game of Thrones and Colleen Wing in Netflix’s Iron Fist. Recently, the British actor has appeared in Hollywood blockbuster The Matrix Resurrections. Meanwhile, Weaving has a lengthy and impressive filmography including roles in the original Matrix trilogy, Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, and V for Vendetta.
Now, the two popular stars have been cast in the new thriller The Royal Hotel. Deadline reports the film is to be directed by Kitty Green, known for her socially-aware films including 2019’s The Assistant. Julia Garner, who starred in that previous film, also co-stars with Henwick and Weaving. The film will follow a pair of backpackers who find themselves in an unnerving situation following an overnight stay at locals bar the Royal Hotel in Australia. Outside of this brief synopsis, plot details of the film are so far unknown.

Green’s social-thriller will shoot on-location in Australia this summer. In the meantime, the Australian Weaving stars in neon-city action-thriller movie Expired. Henwick is set to star in Rian Johnson’s long-awaited sequel, Knives Out 2, but had also previously spoken about how her role as Bugs in the recent Matrix Resurrections film stopped her from quitting acting altogether. Luckily, Henwick will indeed be returning to the screen when The Royal Hotel goes into production later this year via Seesaw Films, with an expected release date in 2023.
