Despite departing from the original show before its conclusion and dying many decades before the start of Vikings: Valhalla, Ragnar will still have his legacy carried by the new spin-off show. With a whole new era of Viking warriors, there’s plenty of room for sagas as grand as Ragnar’s - if not even grander — to be told. Despite what they achieve, and whether or not they are directly connected to Ragnar, these sagas will still be continuing his legacy, and even fulfilling it.
Ragnar’s legacy defines the entirety of the original Vikings show, bringing them, as a people, into European prominence, a trend that continues into the time of Vikings: Valhalla. Despite Valhalla being set up for a heartbreaking end, it is sure to continue on the legacy of conquest, raiding and settling set out by Ragnar, and even cultural integration. With the slew of characters the new show is introducing, no single individual will embody the grandeur of Ragnar. However, the story of the Vikings overall will continue exploring the ideas that Ragnar brought to the table.
