The Election Commission has recently started a nationwide campaign to link Voter ID to Aadhaar Card in order to avoid any duplicate entries in the electoral roll. The Aadhaar card is a mandatory photo id that can be used anywhere for verification. From bank account to PAN card, we need Aadhaar card for verification. Anyone above 18 years of age and owns an electoral voter ID can submit their Aadhaar number through both online and offline methods. For the offline method, users will be required to fill in Form 6B and submit it to the electoral registration officer. However, for the online method, applicants just have to visit the designated website and get their Voter ID linked with an Aadhaar number. All they need is an active mobile number linked with Aadhaar. Here is a step by step process on how to link Aadhaar with voter ID online.
Visit the official portal of the National Voter's Service Portal (NVSP) - nvsp.in.
Next, log in to the website by using your mobile number, email id, voter id number.
Go to the "Search in Electoral Roll" option on the homepage.
Enter personal details like your state, district, name, date of birth and father’s name and submit the Aadhaar number.
You will be required to fill in the name mentioned on your Aadhaar card, Aadhaar number, voter ID number, registered mobile number and/or registered email address.
Preview and submit the details. It’s done.
Though it's a voluntary process and not mandatory as voters can choose not to link their cards, it will establish the identity of an elector and prevent them from registering his or her name in more than one constituency. Further, this will make voters aware about the latest updates from the Election Commission through mobile notifications.
