The Election Commission (EC) of India has asked Aadhaar card holders to link their cards with their Voter ID under a new drive that began on August 1. The time-bound drive is aimed at establishing the identity of electors and authenticating entries in the electoral roll. Also, it is to identify if the same person is registered in more than one constituency or more than once within the same place.
ECI has mentioned in its press release, "It has been emphasized that while handling Aadhaar number of the applicants, the provision under Section 37 of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 must be adhered to. Under no circumstances should it go public. If the electors' information is required to be put for public display, the Aadhaar details must be removed or masked.”
However, the linking of the voter ID with the Aadhaar card is not mandatory. If you are willing to link your Aadhaar numbers with the Voter ID, then you can do so by filling a new Form 6B, which has been specially introduced for collecting the Aadhaar number of existing electors. The Voter ID cardholder has to first download and install the Voter Helpline App on your smartphone.
Once you have installed, open the Voter Helpline App and continue installing while agreeing to the terms and conditions.
After that, click on the first option “Voter Registration”, and then select “Electoral Authentication Form (Form6B)”. Now just tap on the “Lets Start”.
Enter your registered mobile number, tap on “send OTP” and continue with proving the OTP details to verify.
Following that, it will ask you to confirm that “Yes I have voter
