Tony Gilroy, writer and showrunner on Andor, reveals the difference between Cassian in his upcoming self-titled series and his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story debut. The Disney+ series — now moved from its original August 31 release date to September 21 — is set to follow Diego Luna's Cassian in a 12-episode adventure through the formative years of the Rebellion. The spy-thriller will not only detail Cassian's journey into the Rebellion, but will also explore the more political side of the fight, featuring Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and the Imperial Senate.
Up to this point, not much of Cassian's past has been known to audiences. His appearance in Rogue One offered a quick hint at his rough past when he told Jyn Erso, "I've been in this fight since I was six years old." Any other details about Cassian have been left unknown, but with Andor, there is much more for audiences to learn. While it has been confirmed that Andor season 1 will focus on Cassian's early time with the Rebellion five years before the events of Rogue One, any other details about the differences between Cassian in this series and in his original movie have been kept under wraps.

He emphasized the journey Cassian will take into the Rebellion that slowly makes him into the person he becomes at the end of the iconic film. Cassian's "awakening" in Andor will not only be "political," but also "emotional"
