Early reviews for Horizon Forbidden West are in, and it seems critics are raving about Guerilla Games' latest post-apocalyptic open-world adventure. The original Horizon Zero Dawn took gamers by surprise when it launched back in 2017, with PS4 owners being wowed by the story of outcast-turned-heroine Aloy as she journeyed across the robot-filled landscape of the Claim to uncover the truth about where she came from and what became of her world. Horizon Forbidden West was announced back in 2020 and promised to build on what made the first game such a success with the addition of new enemies, gameplay mechanics, and enhanced visuals.
Story trailers for Horizon Forbidden West have featured Aloy venturing out into the titular Forbidden West to learn the secrets behind a mysterious virus that is threatening the land — a journey that sees her face off against a dangerous cult and several new robotic enemy types like Forbidden West’s gigantic, acid-spewing Slitherfang. Luckily, players will be able to utilize new tools like the grappling hook-like Pullcaster, as well as explore the waters of the Forbidden West thanks to the game’s new underwater travel mechanics. Players will also be able to choose their own playstyle thanks to Horizon Forbidden West’s branching skill tree system, which will allow fans to choose between stealth or a more direct, melee-centric approach to combat.
