Horizon Forbidden West has been one of the most talked about games ever since it was released to raving reviews on February 18, 2022. Even the legendary film director John Carpenter said that he “cannot wait” to play the game. The latest development is that Horizon Forbidden West has gone on to become the second biggest PS5 launch in the history of the console. Sony released the PS5 on November 12, 2020.
Horizon Forbidden West is currently the second fastest selling game on PS5 behind Spider-Man: Miles Morales and ahead of FIFA 22. The game was released on PS4 and PS5 with most of the sales being for the newer console. Something like two thirds of the physical sales have been for PS5.

The game appears to have sold poorly relative to the first entry in the franchise, Horizon Zero Dawn. The existing data however does not currently factor in digital sales. This information will be released at some point next week.
With consoles flying off the shelves, analysts expect sales of Horizon Forbidden West to increase as the PS5 becomes available to more prospective purchasers. There have already been several games for the console including Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart which have seen this effect on sales.
Horizon Forbidden West has apparently struck a nerve with many players. The game for example was recently featured on the cover of Vanity Fair in Italy.
