After rumours of another delay it’s confirmed that Harry Potter RPG Hogwats Legacy will be out in 2022, but there’s still no new trailer.
For years fans have been wishing for a big budget Harry Potter role-playing game and while the 19th century setting of Hogwarts Legacy is a bit odd it does otherwise seem to be exactly what they were hoping for – if only it would actually get released.
The game was first announced in September 2020 and we still don’t know anything more about it now than we did then – other than it seems to be a magnet for problems, including delays and problematic staff.
The most recent rumours suggested that it might be heading for another delay, and would be pushed back till 2023, but that has been confirmed to be false, with the game definitely out this year.
The brief update on the Wizarding World website didn’t offer any other information but recent rumours suggest that the game will be one of the main features in the next State of Play event, which is believed to be in early February.
If the game is due out this year, then you’d expect the next reveal to be its release date and hopefully a proper look at the gameplay, although these things are always subject to change at the last minute.
The other part of the original rumour was that the game’s development is in ‘trouble’, which almost goes without saying.
It’s not just the pandemic that’s been a problem but the high profile exit of its pro-GamerGate lead developer and controversy over J. K. Rowling herself, with publisher Warner Bros. going so far as to state that she is not directly involved with the game.
