While anxiously anticipated amongst Potter fans, details of the game have been few and far between since its in-depth gameplay trailer at Sony’s March 2022 State of Play. Considering the game is scheduled for a holiday 2022 release, this lack of info has given rise to player fears that developer Avalanche Software may delay Hogwarts Legacy’s release date to 2023.
Avalanche Software has taken on the responsibility of creating one of the largest and most ambitious Harry Potter games to date with Hogwarts Legacy. Despite a lack of information updates, the game is set to feature an extensive catalog of content fans of the magical series have wanted in video games for years, with broom flight, hippogriff flight, potion making, and even the ability to cast the infamous killing curse. The game also promises a rich spell combat system that allows players to craft their style of spell-slinging and create effective combos against enemies akin to action games like Devil May Cry. The most curious aspect of the Potter open-world RPG will be the roleplaying itself since Avalanche has stated that students will no longer be defined by the stereotypes of houses in Hogwarts Legacy like Gryffindor, but by moral choices made during their adventure.
