To make up for its rocky launch on Valve's storefront, IO Interactive has announced that players who purchase Hitman 3 on Steam will be eligible for free upgrades depending on the version they own. Year 2 of Hitman 3 began last week, bringing the title to Steam and introducing PC players to VR mode with new additions announced to roll out later in 2022. Sadly its release was met with backlash, as players' review bombed the title due to it having a half-baked and broken VR mode that deemed it unplayable, along with an exorbitant price tag despite the game being more than a year old.
IO Interactive concluded the Hitman Trilogy with its third installment in 2021, marking it the first title to be self-published by IO Interactive after separating from Square Enix. Shortly after its initial release, IO Interactive revealed thatHitman 3 managed to become the biggest digital launch in the franchise’s history, selling 300% better than the previous entry in the series. These high sales came despite the controversial Epic Store exclusivity. Critics accompanied the celebration for Hitman 3 with impressively high scores and praising quotes, persuading the studio to create post-launch content following the games' several achievements. IO Interactive's post-launch support extended the title's lifespan, and Year 2 is expected to extend Hitman 3's longevity with another year of additional content for long-time fans of the stealth franchise.
