As Trombone Champ is still relatively popular with gamers as of late, one player has made a custom chart that starts with players being killed by Sephiroth fromFinal Fantasy 7. While custom charts aren't an official feature in the game yet, some fans have managed to mod the game on their own to include new songs. Doing this requires more than just adding the song in, but also requires programming custom notes.
Where Sephiroth comes into play is that this chart is for «One Winged Angel,» the song that plays during the Safer Sephiroth fight late into the title. The version that a fan going by «Henry Zhou's Textbook» on YouTube has added into the indie game hit is the version found in the Advent Children movie. In Final Fantasy series history, «One Winged Angel» is rather poignant as it's the first song in a Final Fantasy game that featured lyrics.

The Trombone Champ map starts out innocent enough; it sees the player in front of a picture of Sephiroth as they first start playing. However, a few seconds later, the player is stabbed from above with the bumper of a black and white trombone. The camera pans upwards to reveal the culprit is Sephiroth before the FF villain takes over and continues the song on a rocky cliff side. Sephiroth killing the musician avatar may seem random at first, but it's a reference to the famous Final Fantasy 7 scene where Sephiroth drops from above to kill Aerith in front of Cloud.
