It's the spookiest time of the year once again. When people buy the worst Starbucks coffee flavour and dress up as monsters, or cowboys, or video game characters, or for the sake of this story, cowboys from video games. Also returning this year, is one of the most popular hero-shooters, in an all new form – Overwatch 2. So, don't be surprised if you see tons of Overwatch themed costumes this year. However, it appears that Spirit Halloween didn't get the memo about a certain character.
A number of Reddit posts have started popping up, with pictures of a Cassidy costume in the seasonal Spirit Halloween store. Unfortunately, the name on the package is that of Cassidy's old name, McCree, which had been changed last year for good reason. Even the item's description on Amazon contains the old name.

Back in August 2021, when the allegations of sexual harrassment against Blizzard and its management had just broken, one of the people named for allegedly perpetrating the infamous frat boy culture and linked to the "Cosby Suite" was Blizzard designer, Jesse McCree. As the controversy began to unfold, McCree left the company along with others, who were also named. Unfortunately Overwatch's cowboy hero was named after the disgraced developer.
Eventually, Blizzard decided that it would be best to rename McCree, and went with Cole Cassidy – Cassidy, for short. "The first thing a renegade loses is their name, and this one gave up his long ago. Running from his past meant running from himself... To make this new Overwatch better - to make things right - he had to be honest with his team and with himself," said the tweet which announced the character's name change.
