If you’ve had enough of Wordle difficulty spikes and confusing words then Heardle might become a permanent replacement.
There are so many Wordle copies already it almost seems like a new one is being released every day, from those that try to make the challenge harder, like Octordle, to others that are based on specific topics like Disney and Lord of the Rings.
Most of those are the same basic game with a small twist but there are a few, like the maths-based Nerdle and the geography-themed Worldle, that are more original. Heardle is in that category, as while the overall concept is similar it’s a completely different game.
It involves guessing a song within a set number of moves – and you can share your score on social media – but instead of working anything out based on on-screen clues you have to listen to a piece of music.
How do you play Heardle?You can play Heardle here and what happens is you have six chances to a guess a song from its intro. The first clip is for just one second but it gets longer and longer the more times you get it wrong or skip a go.
The final clip is 16 seconds long, so it’s not as impossible as it sounds, especially as when you type in the answer there’s an autocomplete so you don’t have to worry about spelling or getting the title exactly right.
If you use the search to type in different artists you’ll see some aren’t included at all, which is a way of getting an extra hint – although some might consider that cheating.
Heardle is very slick and clever but all of these songs have presumably had to be officially licensed, which suggests quite a bit of money has been put into it.
