Reddit user u/ThePup26 decided that the best way to reveal a surprise birthday trip to their wife was to craft a physical version of the popular word game Wordle. They printed out three rounds of puzzles and attached that to some backing cards before giving them to their wife to solve. The three games, when combined, revealed the date and destination for a birthday vacation in Mexico.
Wordle Fan Makes Multiplayer Version of the Game
Wordle is a web-based word puzzle game that is owned and published by The New York Times that has over 300,000 people play it daily. The game works by giving players a five-letter word to solve. Words are released daily, giving players six attempts based on the remaining letters and words that the player has used. Once players solve or fail the puzzle, they're not allowed another attempt until the next day.
Wordle's continuing popularity has already seen scores of copycat variants of the game across the internet, usually created by independent programmers. An interesting variant created by u/decccydecccs utilizing a site known as Custom Wordle gave us a cute example of user ingenuity with a marriage proposal. Other variants of the game have replaced words with math, geography, or trivia while maintaining the core mechanic of six attempts to a reveal.
