A fan edit remedies complaints surrounding Cortana’s depiction in Halo, the upcoming series from Paramount+, by making her blue. Based on the massively popular video game franchise of the same, Halo follows Master Chief/Spartan John-117 (Pablo Schreiber), a super soldier serving as humanity’s greatest weapon in a 26th-century war against the alien Covenant. After initially being announced in 2013, the Halo series has experienced a revolving door of creatives (at one point Steven Spielberg was even attached) before ultimately ending up at Paramount+.
There’s a lot of pressure on adaptations to do right by beloved source material—a sentiment that couldn’t ring truer for Halo. Releasing its 6th entry last year, not including spin-offs, the 21-year-old gaming franchise has strengthened its already-proven fan base with novels, comic books, the live-action miniseries Halo 4: Forward unto Dawn, and digital feature Halo: Nightfall. While original Master Chief voice actor Steve Downes isn't in the show, Cortana voice actor Jen Taylor reprises her role for the upcoming series. The official trailer for Paramount+’s Halo was recently released, offering a look at both John-177 and his iconic partner with the latter’s redesign up upsetting some fans.
