Sony is still pursuing films based on its many video game franchises. According to a new report, PlayStation Productions is developing a movie based on the series.
Deadline’s report reveals that Scott Free Productions is also working with PlayStation on the project. Scott Free Productions is most known for its work on films like,, and, which tracks because it was founded by director Ridley Scott and his brother Tony. Anna Mastro () is set to direct the film while Emily Jerome is writing the script. Jerome also wrote the upcoming thriller, which Scott Free is also developing.
debuted on the PlayStation Vita in 2012 as one of its only big original titles. As its name implies, it lets users control the flow of gravity in order to traverse the world and attack foes, who are mainly blobby enemies called Nevi. The cult game was later remastered for PlayStation 4 in 2016 before its sequel released in 2017. Both were received relatively well, with average scores hovering around 80. It’s unlikely that a video game sequel is in development, though, as many left Japan Studio before it was reorganized and folded into Team Asobi, the developer behind the beloved series.
This wouldn’t be the first time Sony has tried to adapt a stalled game series into a film, as a movie is also in development. These two titles sit alongside the film that released earlier in 2022 and upcoming movies set in the and franchises. Sony is also producing shows based on , , , and .
