Gran Turismo 7 received rave reviews from most critics, but its launch was marred with controversies. Recently, players could not play the game for hours due to the servers being down for maintenance, and developer Polyphony Digital had reportedly reduced the number of credits earned by winning races.
As a result, Gran Turismo 7 was review bombed on Metacritic. Its user score is even lower than before, sitting at just 1.5 compared to the critic score of 87 and giving itone of the lowest user scores of any Sony published title in recent years. Naturally, it’s not a good look for Sony, as it has mostly released beloved games for the last few years. Even the games that are not critically acclaimed managed to develop a passionate fanbase, so GT7’s reception is a big sign of concern. Sony has now apologized for the recent issues and detailed steps it’s taking to compensate users.

Kazunori Yamauchi, President of Polyphony Digital, makes a new post on the official PlayStation Blog and begins by acknowledging the server outage and the issues surrounding Gran Turismo 7’s in-game economy. He states that affected players will get a free credit pack of 1 million Credits as a goodwill gesture. This amount will soon be added to their accounts, and players must log in before April 25 to claim it.
The post goes on to explain that players must own a digital or physical copy of Gran Turismo 7 before 25 March at 1:00 am PST and log in between March 25 at 1:00 am PDT and April 25 at 1:00 am PDT to be eligible for this compensation. The post also mentions that Polyphony Digital will release a new patch in April that will modify the reward system in GT7 to bring a better balance to the game’s economy. It
