Reports have been indicating that fans of the Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and Ghost Recon franchises might just be in for a long wait before they get any more of their favorite games. According to several sources involved in their development, the next entries in these popular franchises remain further out than anyone ever expected.
The news comes from Kotaku this time around, but seems to be in line with an earlier report from Bloomberg. The leaker known as Nibel has now also noted that “according to three sources, the next Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, and Ghost Recon games are further out than Ubisoft planned.”

The story all started with a report back in February. This noted how Ubisoft would be turning a piece of downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla into a standalone game in order to fill up its release calendar for the coming year. The game in question, Rift, was first planned as an expansion, but soon became a standalone title in its own right. Rift will apparently follow the character Basim Ibn Ishaq from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Rather than taking place in a massive open world, Rift will be a smaller scale game focused on stealth encounters. The title currently has no firm release date.
In response to the report about Rift, Ubisoft said in a statement that it refuses to comment on "rumors or speculation as they do a disservice to our development teams and community.” The company went on to say that it has a “solid and exciting" lineup of titles in the works that are from “both established brands with new story twists and features and brand new intellectual properties that will continue to change the landscape of today’s video
