However, Gran Turismo 7’s launch was far from perfect, as users couldn’t play the game for hours due to server maintenance. Players need to be connected online to play GT7’s singleplayer campaign, and developer Polyphony Digital had extended the maintenance period due to an issue found with update 1.07. Gran Turismo 7 is also receiving criticism for its microtransactions, and the credits earned for winning races got reduced in a recent patch, which further angered the player base. Now, players are showing their frustrations by posting negative reviews for the game.
Gran Turismo 7's Microtransactions are More Expensive in the US than Japan
Gran Turismo 7 has a user score of 2.4 on Metacritic, a massive difference from its critic score of 87. Most users state that they like the gameplay of Gran Turismo 7 but are posting negative reviews due to the always-online campaign and the microtransactions. In addition, GT7’s cars are more expensive than they are in its predecessor, as it can take $30+ to purchase a car that costs $3 in GT Sport.
Sony’s PS5 games cost $70 compared to $60 charged by most other publishers, and many users raised concerns over this increase when the console launched. However, PlayStation titles continue to sell well, and games like Horizon Forbidden West and last year’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart did not contain microtransactions.
