Similar to the «Stand By Me» Event in Genshin Impact's previous Lantern Rite, «Fleeting Colors in Flight» offers players an opportunity to choose one of eight 4-star Liyue characters for free. The event's selection includes Xiangling, Beidou, Xingqiu, Ningguang, Chongyun, Xinyan, Yun Jin, and Yanfei. As players can only make their choice once, they will need to ensure that they pick the best character available in Genshin Impact.

While these eight free characters are free of Primogems charge or Banner restraints, players will still need to earn their reward by participating in the Fleeting Colors in Flight Event activities. The prerequisites consist of acquiring Affluence Talismans ×1,000 and Conquest Talismans ×1,000 and completing the "The Stars Inscribe the Year's Wishes." Affluence Talismans are an event currency that can be obtained by finishing challenges for Flameplume Starflowers and Wondrous Shadows. On the other hand, Conquest Talismans only come from the Oceanic Defender Theme, the last event activity that unlocked on January 31st. "The Stars Inscribe the Year's Wishes" is the final event quest of Fleeting Colors in Flight: Part II, meaning that players must complete the entire questline to qualify for a free 4-star character in Genshin Impact.
