Developer miHoYo has confirmed that Genshin Impact Switch still exists, and is not canceled, thanks to a new company statement.
The news comes from GoNintendo, who reached out to the studio and were told the following from Xin Yang (global PR for miHoYo):
“The Switch version is still in development, and we will release more information as we progress further along.”
Originally, Genshin Impact Switch was announced back in 2020. Since then folks have tried to pry information from the studio about the port but have not been able to ascertain anything concrete. All of the usual speculation has arisen from the silence, typically centering around visual complications for the hardware.
At the moment, Genshin Impact is solely available for mobile devices, PC, PS4, and PS5. Bringing it to the Switch would crack open the audience. My guess is that in addition to developmental challenges, the team also needs to secure all of the contractual obligations needed for cross-progression, which has become the norm for the game now. It wouldn’t make much sense (from a business perspective) to launch this version as a walled garden when players have spent years acquiring all sorts of characters and goodies.
In any case, we’ll have to continue to sit tight until we hear more.
