Stirring the pot If even the head of Xbox seems to know about the PlayStation version of Game Pass then I guess it’s pretty obvious it’s happening, and pretty soon by the sound of it. And… I can’t see any reason it wouldn’t be a good thing? Or, to be honest, why they didn’t get it done before now.
Because people love complaining though the two sticking points I foresee are first party games and the price. Unlike Phil Spencer I cannot see Sony including all first party games from day one by default. That’s taking too much money out of Sony’s pocket and while I’m sure they’ll have plenty of exceptions and fudges I can’t believe it’ll be the standard like it is on Xbox.
The other thing is the price. The idea of three tiers sounds expensive before you even start and if there’s one thing I don’t imagine Sony matching it’s the price of Game Pass. Game Pass Ultimate costs £10.99 a month, while PlayStation Plus is £6.99 and PlayStation Now is £8.99. I would assume that the third tier of the new service is going to be more expensive than any of those and that is going to a cause a lot of arguments.
Phil Spencer knows full well that the two services are not going to be identical and as far as I’m concerned he’s purposefully stirring the pot, making people expect more of PlayStation Game Pass, so that when it’s announced as less it seems like a disappointment.Rushton
