11 bit studios has released a fresh trailer for Frostpunk 2, the sequel to the hit survival city building game. The team also confirmed that Frostpunk 2 will be coming out in 2024.
There’s no new gameplay in the trailer, but there’s plenty of world setting imagery. Where Frostpunk was set in the age of coal power, the sequel has moved on to an era of oil extraction, potentially giving new hope for the survivors that you are leading. That will come with its own challenges, and the announcement trailer adds a fanatical religious tone to the societal strife that you will face.
Frostpunk first released for PC in 2018 before a Console Edition arrived a year later. The sequel looks like it will follow a similar path, with the game confirmed for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.com. No release window has been set, but fingers crossed it’s not years away.
Looking back at that first game, Jason wrote in our Frostpunk review:
“Frostpunk is a horrifyingly playable post-apocalyptic survival game that demands more out of you than most games ever could. Each decision and each sacrifice you make is hard on your city and on you. There are so many impossible choices and no win situations that the game is almost hard to play, but it’s so compelling that you will be unable to step away from it. The only real negative is the sheer overwhelming nature of the world the game is set in, and really that is more of a compliment to the designers than anything else.”
