After a lengthy hiatus and many rumors, Armored Core is back. FromSoftware announced Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon during today's Game Awards presentation with a brief trailer today, confirming that it will be out sometime in 2023.
The CG trailer shows just what you expect: giant robots wheeling around and fighting one another. Other notable scenes include a burning planet and a mech with a backpack looking out over the horizon.
Little else is known about the sequel save that its release window. Fans will no doubt speculate that FromSoftware will give this one a Soulsborne edge — following on from the success of Elden Ring and other releases — but that's far from certain.
After all, Armored Core is one of FromSoftware's oldest and most venerable series, dating all the way back to 1997. It has historically been a multiplayer-focused mecha action game with a heavy emphasis on customization. It last saw action back in 2012, shortly after the release of Dark Souls.
Armored Core V, the most recent entry in the series, was an ambitious multiplayer game built around squads of players controlling parts of a large strategic map. It's currently unknown if Armored Core VI will move in a similar direction.
No release date has been provided outside of a 2023 launch window. You can find all the rest of our Game Awards coverage here.
