Starship Troopers: Extermination will compete directly with Arrowhead's Helldivers 2, landing under fire on PS5 on 11th October, and it looks absolutely sick. Johnny Rico, of the legendary Rico's Roughnecks (and your commanding officer in-game), called Helldivers 2 a «good tribute» but reminds us all that Extermination is the genuine article. We got a look at the sort of competition coming to PS5 in a new trailer.
Extermination is a first-person shooter set in the Starship Troopers universe from which Helldivers takes so much inspiration. And not to make everything a direct comparison, but the idea of 16-player PVE action is certainly tantalising, especially as Arrowhead has already given us a taste for this type of gameplay.
By this point, PlayStation fans are well acquainted with Helldivers 2 drama, the community currently in revolt, locked in a Machiavellian power struggle with developer Arrowhead. If Extermination manages to stick the landing, disaffected Helldivers players could potentially jump ship and find somewhere familiar to land.
