Chris Evans is leading the ensemble cast of Pixar's newest movie Lightyear as the titular Space Ranger who finds himself marooned on a dangerous alien planet with a group of fellow humans after a mission gone wrong. After multiple failed attempts to recreate his rocket fuel sends him to the future, Buzz must team up with a team of aspiring rookies in the hopes of getting everyone home and stopping the villainous robot, Emperor Zurg.
With just over a month remaining until the film's release, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with Tailoring and Simulation Supervisor Fran Kalal to discuss Lightyear, crafting the various spacesuits for the Toy Story prequel, her favorite to design, and her first time as a supervisor on a Pixar project.

Screen Rant: From what I've seen so far, I've had an absolute blast with Lightyear. It's something that I was immediately interested in when I heard about it. What about the film really drew you to want to be a part of it?
Fran Kalal: Oh, I knew that I wanted to work on this project for a few reasons. Number one, I'm a huge sci-fi fan.
Number two, I'm a huge costumes nerd. They are some of my favorite things, and I knew that the costumes were going to play a really, really big role in this movie. Because anytime you send someone to space, that spacesuit that they're wearing can end up being a tiny spaceship if anything goes wrong. I knew the costumes were going to be so incredibly important and elaborate and complicated, and I love a challenge like that. I was super, super stoked to come on to this project and explore that.
