At this year’s Gamescom, NetEase Games took the stage to introduce their latest title, Floatopia. And rumor has it, that we should see it released across multiple platforms, including Android, sometime next year. This whimsical life sim invites you to explore a world filled with sky-bound islands and quirky characters. The trailer showcased an idyllic setting where you can farm, fish, and decorate your drifting island home.
The Floatopia trailer starts with an announcement that the world is about to end. Bummer. Fortunately, this apocalypse is more ‘My Time At Portia’ than ‘Fallout’.
This new reality is a world of fractured lands in the open sky, and humans with supernatural powers. However, not every power is equal. Some aren’t fast enough to reserve flying or laser eyes, and only get their hands on apparently useless superpowers, a bit of a disappointment for them.
Together, they discover that what might seem insignificant at first glance can hold hidden potential.
You take on the role of the Island Manager, and busy yourself with the kind of tasks Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley fans might appreciate. Grow crops, fish in the clouds, and perfect every inch of your new home. But a flying home brings adventure too, with the option to travel to exotic locales and meet new people.
There’s also ample opportunity to socialize, with shared adventures or island parties and an opportunity to show your buddies around your carefully-crafted paradise. Or you can just ditch that part entirely and keep it to yourself, multiplayer is apparently very much optional.
There are plenty of in-game pals to meet and get to know the quirks of… both in the personality sense, and the My Hero Academia sense.
While the hype is real, Floatopia has not yet confirmed its release date for 2025. If you want to pre-register, you can go to their official website.
